Room-By-Room Spring Cleaning Checklist
Are you beginning your spring cleaning but not sure where to start? Maybe you’re almost done but feel like you’re forgetting something. Don’t worry! We’ve created this room-by-room spring cleaning checklist to help you get started or check over any areas you may have missed. We’ve also included some bonus information at the end of this article for having the cleanest home possible at all times so you can live comfortably and breathe easier.
Entryway
- ☐ Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors or rugs
- ☐ Wipe down the walls and clean baseboards
- ☐ Dust above door frames, photo frames, on furniture, and along air vents
- ☐ Clean doors with appropriate cleaning products
- ☐ Organize entryway tables, shelves, shoes, and decor
Living Room
- ☐ Dust off the ceiling fan (this is step 1!)
- ☐ Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors or rugs
- ☐ Wipe down all flat surface including tabletops, the mantle, the TV ☐ stand, the TV, picture frames, walls, and furniture
- ☐ Dust the blinds and clean the windows
- ☐ Dust or vacuum any air vents and ensure they’re not covered by furniture
- ☐ Wash pillows and blankets
- ☐ Organize furniture and decor
Kitchen
- ☐ Wipe all countertops, backsplashes, and walls
- ☐ Dust all flat surfaces, including the tops of the cabinets
- ☐ Remove items from cabinets and dust inside
- ☐ Dust or vacuum any air vents
- ☐ Clean the stove top, oven, microwave, and dishwasher
- ☐ Wash any dirty dishes
- ☐ Clean out the refrigerator and freezer getting rid of any expired food or drinks
- ☐ Clean out pantry of any expired food or drinks
- ☐ Wash any rugs or mats
- ☐ Take out the trash
- ☐ Sweep and mop the kitchen floor (this should be the last thing you do here!)
Dining Room
- ☐ Dust and polish furniture as well as well as any china in cabinets
- ☐ Wash chair cushions according to instructions
- ☐ Wipe down walls and clean baseboards
- ☐ Dust blinds and clean windows
- ☐ Dust or vacuum any air vents
- ☐ Clean light fixtures
- ☐ Sweep and mop dining room floor
Bedrooms
- ☐ Put away clothes, papers, toys, blankets, or pillows
- ☐ Organize closets, dresser drawers, side tables, and vanity
- ☐ Dust and polish furniture
- ☐ Clean sheets, pillow cases, pillows, and comforters
- ☐ Dust fan and clean light fixtures
- ☐ Wipe down walls and clean baseboards
- ☐ Dust blinds and clean windows
- ☐ Vacuum or dust all air vents and ensure they’re not covered by furniture
- ☐ Sweep, mop, vacuum, or steam clean floors or rugs
- ☐ Organize bedroom decor
Bathrooms
- ☐ Clean out drawers and cabinets to discard old medications, makeup, or trash
- ☐ Wipe down countertops and clean mirrors
- ☐ Replace or clean showerhead
- ☐ Replace shower curtain liner
- ☐ Clean toilets, sinks, tubs, and showers with appropriate cleaning products
- ☐ Dust or vacuum any air vents
- ☐ Wipe down walls and clean baseboards
- ☐ Wash any rugs or floor mats
- ☐ Scrub tile, then sweep and mop floors
Laundry Room
- ☐ Run cleaning cycles for washing machine according to manufacturer instructions
- ☐ Clear dryer of any lent
- ☐ Get a professional dryer vent cleaning
- ☐ Organize laundry supplies on shelves
- ☐ Discard any empty boxes or bottles
- ☐ Wipe down walls and clean baseboards
- ☐ Wipe down any countertops, cabinets, and the top of the washer and dryer
- ☐ Dust or vacuum any air vents
- ☐ Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors
Garage
- ☐ Open the garage door and air out the space
- ☐ Declutter the mess and organize onto shelves or in boxes
- ☐ Wipe down walls
- ☐ Sweep the floors
- ☐ Clean windows
Office
- ☐ Recycle or throw away unneeded papers
- ☐ Dust and polish furniture
- ☐ Wipe down walls and clean baseboards
- ☐ Dust or vacuum any air vents
- ☐ Dust and clean electronics, keyboards, and trackpads
- ☐ Sweep, mop, or vacuum office floor
- ☐ Organize electronics, furniture, books, and decor
Miscellaneous
- ☐ Clean and put away kids’ or pets’ toys
- ☐ Replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
