October At Home

Making the Most of October At Home – 6 Fun Ideas

While there are tons of great activities to take part in outside this fall, there’s just something about spending a day at home. If you’re a homebody, you’re likely looking forward to the sweet smell of pumpkin spice or apple cinnamon candles, the fresh taste of baked bread or homemade cookies, and maybe even having a game night with family and friends. However, if you’re just not quite sure how to make the most of October at home, check out these fun ideas!

Outside Movie Night

Don’t just have a movie night, have a movie night outside! Enjoy perfect fall evenings by setting up pillows, blankets, chairs, or even an air mattress outside to watch a fall or Halloween movie. You don’t have to have a TV to make this worth either. Get a projector and cast the movie from a DVD player or even your phone onto a large, plain outdoor wall. A movie night is the perfect activity for your family, a group of friends, or you and your significant other.

Pumpkin Carving Competition

Put your competitive nature and your artistic skills to work this October with a pumpkin carving competition! Everyone knows pumpkins are a staple of the fall season, so we couldn’t leave them out of your to-do list. Pumpkin carving is a great activity for family and friends, especially if you want some friendly-competition. Once all the pumpkins are carved, line them up outside. Then, place lit candles (real or battery operated) in your pumpkins, and vote for the best as you watch them glow in the night! Winning is just no fun without a prize, so up the competition by offering a surprise for the winner!

Games & Ghost Stories

Another fun activity that you can do with family and friends is having a game night and ending the night with ghost stories. Have everyone bring a game that’s good for tons of people to play, or you can have a bunch of mini-games! As the night winds down, set the mood for ghost stories by turning the lights off, cuddling up together, or even sitting around a campfire. Gather your best ghost stories and try to scare your friends!

Baking & Crafting

Baking and making crafts are great activities to do by yourself or with others. This fall, whether your forte is freshly baked bread, melty chocolate chip cookies, or sweet apple pie, you’ve got to bake something! Baking is a staple of the fall season. It always brings those happy, nostalgic feelings into your home. Once you’ve put your masterpiece in the oven, work on a craft to stay busy!

Your craft can add to your fall decor! Make a welcome sign for your front porch or create a dining room table centerpiece filled with pumpkins and fall foliage. Or, get the kids together and work with them on some fun fall crafts like making ghost rockets, painting wood pumpkins, or creating a watercolor spider web! There are tons of ideas on Pinterest

Have A Tailgate Party

If you’re a football fan, throw a tailgate party this October to have family and friends over to watch the big game! Want to save money on food? Have everyone bring a dish like a potluck dinner, or have everyone create their own themed charcuterie board! If you’re able, set up a tent and food table outside with some games like cornhole for entertainment. If you’re having the party inside, decorate with football themed decor and your team’s colors, imagery, and slogans. Don’t forget to have the game on TV for your tailgate party!
