Department of Energy SEER 2 Public Service Announcement
Updates on what you need to know about the 2023 DOE SEER 2 Mandate
2023 will bring the new and anticipated energy efficiency standards for residential HVAC equipment to take effect on January 1, 2023. Many HVAC companies will take this opportunity to produce intimidating looking letters or ads that may lead homeowners to believe replacing their current HVAC system is mandatory. Nothing could be further from the truth.
At Gulfshore, we strive to serve the community with the best information available. Here are the facts:
- You may operate your current HVAC system until it fails or you choose to replace it for increased efficiency.
- Any 14 SEER residential HVAC equipment manufactured prior to January 1, 2023 may still be sold and installed after January 1, 2023 in the US.
- Split system heat pumps manufactured after January 1, 2023 in any region including the Southeast must meet new SEER 2 guidelines with a SEER 2 rating of 14.3 (15 SEER).
- The purpose of the SEER 2 rating system is to raise external static pressure testing conditions and more accurately represent real world installation conditions of residential HVAC equipment.
For a more detailed explanation of this rating system or any questions or concerns regarding information received from competitor advertising contact your Gulfshore comfort consultant. Gulfshore will provide you with honest answers for all your HVAC needs. We look forward to serving you!
